Sponsor A Show! Please join us in supporting the arts through the EGR Drama Program by becoming a sponsor. With three levels available, your sponsorship goes a long way towards helping us meet our financial goal to be able to continue bringing you great shows and providing educational resources for students thru programs in which theatre techniques are used to help them develop self-confidence, effective communications, and a better understanding of life’s skills in general. This experience emphasizes positive attitudes and an understanding of how individuals can work together to overcome difficulties. Click here for our sponsorship form.
About EGRHS Drama EGRHS is a member of the the International Thespian Society and has an active and vibrant drama program. Over 200 students participate in at least one production each year with recent shows including Marry Poppins, A Chorus Line, West Side Story and The Phantom Of The Opera. Students can be involved in as many as 7 extra-curricular productions during the school year. Productions are open to all students and opportunities abound for them to also become involved in areas other than acting - such as stage managing, student directing, set construction, lighting/sound design, stage crew, publicity, costuming, makeup, ushers and house managers. Audition schedules are announced at drama club meetings and posted on the club bulletin board. Those wishing to participate in any capacity must attend at least one audition and fill out a form indicating their interest - if they are absolutely unable to attend, they must contact Jason Marlett.
Drama Club Our Drama Club is open to all EGRHS students interested in theater. We meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 3:15pm in the Little Auditorium. Audition information, show needs, fundraising, and trips are also discussed.
24-Hour Theater
Over the course of 24 hours students will write, direct, rehearse and perform 5-6 original one-act plays. Student playwrights start Friday evening and stay up all night writing plays with topics from dramatic tragedy to comic parodies all from original student concepts. Directors and actors come in Saturday morning and rehearse, rehearse, rehearse! Stage technicians assist in costuming, props, set, sound, and lights - and by Saturday night the students will astound you with their polished performances at 7pm in the Little Auditorium.
Student Productions Each year the drama club produces a 100% student run show serving as another opportunity for them to be involved on the stage. Past shows have included A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Importance Of Being Earnest, The Taming of the Shrew, Hamlet, The Man Who Came to Dinner, Leading Ladies and Parfumerie.
Annual Trip To The Stratford Shakespeare Festival In May of each year the Drama Club takes a 2-day bus trip to Stratford, Ontario to see three shows. Students are able to see professional performances of Shakespeare classics as well as participate in an actors' talk with cast members. Please note - a Passport/Passport Card or a Michigan Enhanced Drivers License is required to cross the US / Canada border.
End Of The Year Each school year concludes with a moving ceremony where students are awarded certificates of the next level earned. Some even letter in the theater arts, much like earning their letter in sports, and they receive these honors at this banquet-like ceremony.
